Polyurethane

Production of Polyurethane Parts

Polyurethane is a polymer comprised of a chain of organic units bound with carbamates.

Today, there are numerous products made of polyurethane such as flexible foams (sponges), flexible and non-swelling elastomers, adhesives, coatings, integral products including both elastomer and foam, rigid foams (insulation materials), rigid and non-swelling imitation wood.

Polyether polyols are generally used in polyurethanes including foam. Water functions as the swelling agent of flexible foams. However, in rigid foams, the gases which provide heat insulation, and water are used as the swelling agent. Since flexible foams are generally produced to ensure comfort, they must have open cell structure. On the other hand, rigid foams must have a closed cell structure and must release no gas. In non-swelling polyurethanes, the moisture in the compounds must be removed completely.

Areas of Use of Polyurethane?

Polyurethane products entered into almost every sphere of our lives…

• Automotive Industry
• Construction Industry
• Heavy Equipment Industry
• Furniture
• Marine Industry

Apart from these, soles of shoes and slippers made from polyester polyols are examples of uses of polyurethane. Also, artificial leather used in couch upholstery, bags and shoes.

Polyurethane products have penetrated almost every sphere of our lives.

Polyurethane is found in many products which are not limited to the following uses: the soles of our shoes, the seat on which we sit, our beds (in the form of sponge and imitation leather), imitation wood on the mirrors and seats, insulation material in fridges and water heaters, dashboards and steering wheels of cars and panels covering the walls and roofs of buildings.
